SCHWALBE LAUNCHES REFORESTATION PROJECT

SCHWALBE FOREST IS BEING CREATED IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE COMPANY HEADQUARTERS

Schwalbe is taking responsibility and supporting reforestation in the immediate vicinity of its headquarters in Reichshof-Wehnrath. Bark beetles and drought are causing problems for forests in many regions of Germany - in the Bergisches Land region, about a third of the forest area is affected. In cooperation with the Bündnis Zukunftswald e.V., Ralf Bohle GmbH, with the Schwalbe brand, is bearing the costs for the replanting and maintenance of one hectare of forest (10,000 m²) destroyed by the persistent drought and the bark beetle.

On Friday (Nov. 24), the family-owned company launched a major hands-on campaign with its employees, who planted more than 10 percent of the area themselves under expert guidance.

"Our forests are threatened by climate change, but at the same time make a valuable contribution to natural climate protection. That is why it is close to our heart to take responsibility in our home region and make a positive difference," said Schwalbe CEO Frank Bohle.

The choice of tree species was tailored to regional characteristics such as soil and climatic conditions: Winter oaks, winter limes, sweet chestnuts, pines and bird cherry were planted. A climate-stable mixed forest is now growing on the previously barren area that will be sustainably managed in the long term.
