SCHWALBE DONATES UP TO 15,000 EUROS TO WBR
DOUBLING OF DONATIONS FROM 15 EUROS
This year, Schwalbe is once again supporting the Christmas campaign of the MTB-News, eMTB-News and Rennrad-News portals, which benefits the aid organization World Bicycle Relief (WBR). The family business will match every donation of 15 euros or more received by Christmas – up to a total of 15,000 euros.
Schwalbe has been committed to WBR since 2014. As part of its own aid programs, the organization mobilizes people in rural regions in Africa and South America with Buffalo bicycles. The wheels are particularly robust and assembled on site. “Bicycles open up new opportunities for people where alternative transport options are lacking. More mobility advances entire communities,” says Juana Gräter from World Bicycle Relief. “School children don't come to class completely exhausted, nurses and midwives cycle to see their patients instead of walking miles. Small farmers can transport their goods to the mart. It's a win for everyone." In 2021 alone, WBR handed over well over 85,000 bicycles.
“Where there is no transport, World Bicycle Relief mobilizes people with bicycles. It's amazing how a simple bike can make everyday life easier and positively move life forward. For this reason, we have wholeheartedly supported World Bicycle Relief for many years,” says Frank Bohle, CEO of Ralf Bohle GmbH with the Schwalbe brand. "Of course we hope that we can motivate many people to donate again."
ABOUT WORLD BICYCLE RELIEF
The international aid organization World Bicycle Relief develops and produces robust, high-quality cargo bikes that are assembled on site and withstand the special requirements in rural developing regions. Micro-entrepreneurs use the bikes to increase their productivity and earn better income. School children attend classes more regularly, improve their performance and thus have better future prospects. Health care workers can reach more people, including in remote areas, increasing care. To ensure the sustainability of the programs, WBR also trains local bicycle mechanics. World Bicycle Relief was founded by F.K. Day (SRAM) in 2005 after the Indian Ocean tsunami. Since then, more than 680,000 bicycles have been delivered to a total of 21 countries and more than 2,800 mechanics have been trained, including in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Colombia.
