Schwalbe wins the German Sustainability Award for Products 2025 with Green Marathon
The world's first circular tire is considered a benchmark for innovative and environmentally friendly development
Schwalbe has been awarded the German Sustainability Award for Products 2025 for its "Green Marathon" bicycle tire. The product award honors the beacons among sustainable solutions and is probably Germany's most prestigious recognition for exemplary ecological and social achievements. It is awarded by the German Sustainability Award Foundation.

Technological milestones such as the tubeless setup as the standard for maximum performance on the road bike, pave the Schwalbe way. Patrick Lange won with the Pro One TT in Hawaii 2017, the first Ironman triumph without a tube in the tire. Another example: Working together with the pros in the Downhill World Cup, the Tacky Chan was developed as the fastest downhill tire in the world and debuted in 2023.
However, Schwalbe's research and development work goes even further. The Schwalbe Recycling System - the only holistic recycling system to date in which material is recovered from old tires to produce new ones - was also developed in the Schwalbe Lab. And the next innovations of the future are already in the works. The Schwalbe LAB stands for new standards in all areas.
Auch auf dem eigenen Firmengelände hat Schwalbe etwas Positives bewirkt: Zwei Rasenflächen wurden dort in (zukünftige) Wildblumenwiesen umgewandelt. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Bergischen Agentur für Kulturlandschaften und unterstützt durch den NABU Oberberg wird durch die Aussaat eines speziell für das Bergische Land entwickelten Saatguts eine gezielte Förderung der regionalen Flora und Fauna ermöglicht. Solche Initiativen begünstigen nicht nur den Erhalt lokaler Pflanzenarten, sondern schaffen auch wertvolle Nahrungsquellen und Rückzugsräume für bestäubende Insekten wie Bienen und Schmetterlinge.
Die dritte Schwalbe-Aktion fand hybrid statt: CSR-Manager Jens Timmerbeil vermittelte den Schwalbe-Mitarbeitenden gemeinsam mit dem Reallabor KliX³ in einem Workshop, wie sie ihren persönlichen CO2-Fußabdruck ermitteln können und welche Schritte dabei helfen, diesen nach und nach zu verringern: Große und kleine Maßnahmen im Alltag, wie zum Beispiel mehr Fahrrad, statt Auto zu fahren oder eine bewusstere Ernährung.
Gleichzeitig gab es Tipps, wie man zusätzlich durch aktives Engagement für den Klimaschutz noch mehr positive Beiträge für heutige und zukünftige Generationen leisten kann.
