We want to feel how easily the tire rolls with every pedal stroke. We want to feel the reliable grip that unites us with the asphalt in every corner. We want maximum safety and reliability so that we can focus entirely on our sport. This is exactly what we have worked for. The result is the new Schwalbe Pro One. As tubeless and tube type version. Enthusiasm from the first meter.

Light, fast and safe. But what else do road cyclists expect from a tire?
The development team led by product manager Peter Krischio asked themselves this question at the start of the project.

DEVELOPMENT


In our intensive collaboration with top and junior athletes, we have discovered that racers want a tire that not only rolls quickly and easily, but also offers maximum suppleness. A tire whose ride feel corresponds to that of a tubular tire. A tire that implements the rider's commands quickly and precisely and provides sensitive feedback at all times. A tire that "lives". Logical, because in addition to the unique ride feel, the added souplesse has another major advantage: the rider tires more slowly. As a result, they can perform better and for longer. This can not only be scientifically proven in tests and calculations, but can also be experienced on the bike itself.

Nothing stays the same

Everything is new. Right from the start. The new Pro One is not another development stage of the status quo, but a completely new solution. Because to create something unique, you have to break new ground.

The challenge

The aim of the new development was to create a fast, light and safe tire that also offers a high degree of suppleness. A tire that sets new standards.

TECHNOLOGY


SOUPLESSE CARCASS CONSTRUCTION

The turn-up construction integrates Tubeless Easy technology in the most advanced way. This makes the tire incomparably supple and comfortable. The ride feel is similar to the silky smooth behavior of a classic tubular tire.

V-GUARD PUNCTURE PROTECTION INSERT

The insert is made from a specially developed high-tech polymer fiber, which is also used for bullet and stab-proof vests. It provides excellent protection against cuts and punctures and is extremely lightweight. Neither rolling resistance nor suppleness of the tire are affected by V-Guard. The 14 mm wide insert protects the entire tread and thus ensures extremely high puncture resistance. The 3-layer sidewall also provides reliable protection against cuts.

ADDIX RACE COMPOUND

Completely new formula. Addix Race is a multi-compound made from the latest and highest quality polymers in tested quality. As the filling levels for silica have been significantly increased, the mixing process also had to be refined. Different special compounds are used in the center and on the sides. This increases grip in bends without having a negative impact on rolling resistance or durability.

MANUFACTURING


To ensure the consistently high quality of our tires, we have placed great emphasis on optimizing production. We have invested heavily in innovative machinery and employee training.

Maximum precision and minimal manufacturing tolerances are essential for a product of the highest quality. This is the only way to ensure easy fitting, especially for tubeless tires, and a long service life.

Fully automatic compound mixing station

In the state-of-the-art mixing station, the mixing ratio is controlled by computer in real time. This guarantees a consistently high quality of the rubber compound.

Compounding machines

Tire compounding is still an activity in which people with their hands and know-how are indispensable. The new semi-automatic machines support our experienced and trained skilled workers in this process.

Extruder system

The innovative system works extremely precisely and ensures a uniform running surface thickness. This effectively prevents weight fluctuations.

THE PRODUCT MANAGER

Product Manager Peter Krischio is Schwalbe's expert for road bike tires. Technical know-how, years of experience and, last but not least, his passion for road cycling make him an expert.
 
Peter, your Schwalbe Pro One has won many test victories in recent years. Why did you still develop the new tire?
Standing still is a step backwards. We set ourselves the goal of developing a tire that has similar riding characteristics to a tubular tire. Souplesse, the special riding feel that is always so important to professionals, was the focus of our work. Until now, no folding tire could offer this.

How did you proceed?

At the beginning, we questioned everything and realized that we would not achieve our goal with previous carcass designs. So we designed the carcass from scratch.

With what success?

Creating souplesse was our goal. And we achieved it. To understand, or rather to find out what we mean by that, we recommend a test ride on the new Pro One.


Do you think the professionals will switch in the future?

I very much expect it. We already support many successful professional cycling teams, such as Team Wallonie Bruxelles or the Canyon Sram women's World Tour team. These are young, innovative riders who, in the age of disc brakes and electronic shifting, no longer accept a hand-sewn tubular tire as state-of-the-art. These riders no longer want to do without the performance advantages of tubeless tires.


Many road cyclists shy away from fitting tubeless tires. What do you say to them?
Our new tubeless road bike tires can be fitted just as easily as a tube type tire without a tire lever or compressor!

How can that be?

For one thing, we have years of experience with tubeless in the road bike sector and work hand in hand with rim and wheel manufacturers. We constantly test the mounting and compatibility of our tires on their current tubeless wheels and can thus optimize the manufacturing tolerances of the components. A corresponding overview of tested wheels can be found on our website. On the other hand, we have developed a special sealing lip for the tire bead. The sealing lip fits snugly against the rim flange after mounting and seals the tire airtight to the rim. This means that our tubeless tires can be fitted without tools and a floor pump is usually all you need.

Which compound is used?

The Addix Race Compound impresses with super grip, especially in wet conditions. It is very resistant to cuts, does not pick up stones and impresses with extra-long mileage.
