The Queens of Kona
Schwalbe athletes dominate the podium at the Ironman World Championship 2023
There are moments in sport that go down in history and give the audience goose bumps. The 2023 Ironman World Championship is undoubtedly one of those moments. As cycling enthusiasts and ambitious partners of the triathlon elite, we are thrilled and proud that Schwalbe athletes took all the places on the podium in the most important race of the year.
The crowning of a long journey
The highlight of the race was without question the impressive victory of Lucy Charles-Barclay, who after four runner-up finishes finally managed to crown herself with the title and accept the laurel wreath in her fifth attempt in Kona.„Iv’e wanted this so badly, it’s taken me 5 attempts – All I have ever wanted was to win this race”
Her victory is the epitome of perseverance, willpower and unwavering belief in herself. We at Schwalbe are proud to have been able to support you as a tire partner along the way.
Fastest swim, fastest time on the bike, a personal best in the marathon.
Needless to say, what a feat the female athletes accomplish in an Ironman. Especially in view of the extreme conditions of Kona. All the more remarkable is Lucy's outstanding performance. Never before has a woman led the race from start to finish.
Schwalbe dominates the race
But it wasn't just our winner who caused a stir. Schwalbe athletes Anne Haug and Laura Philipp completed the podium and delivered a race over 3.862 km swimming, 180.246 km cycling and a marathon run over 42.195 km that remained exciting until the end.
A thank you to our athletes
Congratulations to all finishers and special thanks to our Schwalbe athletes Lucy Charles-Barclay, Anne Haug, Laura Philipp, Fenella Langride, Lisa Norden, Laura Zimmermann and Dani Bleymehl for their impressive performances. We share a great admiration for what you accomplish and are proud to support you.
Special material for specialists
All Schwalbe athletes were in Kona on our time trial special tire "Schwalbe Pro One TT". Anne Haug used a set-up with our high-tech TPU tube made of Aerothane. All other athletes rode a tubeless setup.
