Schwalbe will showcase its handmade Ultremo HT ("Handmade Technology") tubular tire at EUROBIKE. The strength of this Pro racing tire lies in combining classic, Italian craftsmanship with high-end materials such as the new RaceStar Triple Compound and inner protection provided by a traditional latex tube. Handmaking tubular tires is an art in itself, as production in Schwalbe´s new factory differs distinctly from the manufacture of normal bicycle tires. For each individual "tubular" a lot of careful craftsmanship is required, so only the most skilled people are employed to construct each tire and, by hand, stitch and glue together each part. Hi-tech materials complement careful handcrafting: "The RaceStar Triple Compound is presently the benchmark in tire technology", explained Schwalbe Technician, Markus Hachmeyer. "No other bicycle tire manufacturer can combine rubber compounds in such a precise fashion in volume production. So triple rubber compounds have become our trademark. Only the combination of compounds makes this kind of maximum performance possible". RaceStar Triple Compound RaceStar Triple Compound is made up of three, new, individual compounds. Each individual compound is then positioned on the tread exactly where it is needed. In the center of the tire, durability and resistance is added. This is where Schwalbe has put a wear-resistant, low rolling resistance compound that, at the same time, grips well: The `Center Compound´. In contrast, the prime requirement on the tire shoulder is grip. "The shoulder compound has great adhesion properties. It is very flexible, remaining in contact with the road surface while absorbing bumps and so does not lose traction under severe cornering," explained the Schwalbe Technician. A very light-running base compound is positioned beneath the tire´s center tread making it super fast. Another advantage of the Ultremo HT is its latex tube - a must in Italian style construction that provides puncture protection and elasticity. Above all the Raceguard puncture protection belt offers a measure of flat protection that is unusual in a tubular. "Pros consider tubulars simply unsurpassable! They have indisputably the best run-flat ability that is really so important in racing", described Hachmeyer. "The new Ultremo HT provides the ideal combination of puncture protection, comfort, grip and speed". For riders who value speed over puncture protection there is the Ultremo TT: This version is even faster as it does not have a protection belt, but still has RaceStar Triple Compound and a latex tube so is fully `Race-ready´. Racing Ralph is also available as a tubular for Cyclo-cross and MTB Cross-country competitions - where winter races are becoming ever more popular. The celebrated Racing Ralph MTB competition tire also comes in a tubular version, Racing Ralph HT ("Handmade Technology") with Triple Compound and a latex tube (size 28 x 1.25). And for Mountain Bike racing Schwalbe has introduced Racing Ralph HT in 26 x 2.00. The Ultremo HT, Ultremo TT as well as the Racing Ralph HT tubulars will be in specialist bicycle stores in Autumn 2010. |
